However, it currently falls short of Netflix’s two most-watched films ever: Don’t Look Up and Red Notice. Don’t Look Up, released in December 2021, had 359.8 million hours and Red Notice 364 million hours viewed within the first 28 days of release.
Of all streaming platforms, Netflix comes out on top, filling out four of the top five spots for the most-streamed shows and movies of 2022.
Netflix’s decline came despite the fact that it ended the year with strong performing titles including the series Wednesday and the film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Drilling down, the performance varied across platforms, with Netflix and NOW both experiencing quarterly drops in UK homes. Netflix, the market leader, saw a 0.7% drop to 17.5m homes while Sky’s streaming service NOW slipped by 7.6% to 1.88m. Amazon Prime Video, number two in the UK, achieved a slight increase of +0.1% from 13.11 million in Q3 2022 – and now stands at 13.12m. The big winners in percentage terms were Apple TV+, up 21% to 1.69 million, and Disney+, up 4.3% to 7.28m.
